Finally, A Quilt

Hip, Hip, Hooray! Isn't she just gorgeous? As my first quilt is pieced together, I can't help but feel a massive sense of accomplishment. I love it soooo much! The colors are beautiful and I especially love the fabric choices. Thank you Cluck Cluck Sew for all your awesome tutorials!

The logic behind this project lay in the fact that I had to make a quilt this year. (Yeah, remember New Year's resolutions numbers 1,2, and 3.) Well, it turns out in less than 2 months, it'll be 2013!.... I can gladly say hooray, I'm there in a nutshell. Now.... obviously the backing and batting for this is not complete. I'm doing some research on how to do it correctly since I want nothing but get it right the first time. Here's a few things I learned while making this piece. It was overall a fairly organized and simple project for a first time do-er. I didn't follow the tutorial in whole.  If I did, I would've had more stripes, with a narrower 'flip' piece in the center. Also, next time I'll make sure that my cotton is all from the same brand. Some strips tended to 'float' and I think the type of cotton was the issue. The most tedious part had to be all the ironing. Oh my gosh.....I thought, will it ever end?  I also learned that I LOVE my rotary cutting tool and straight edge. Wow, do these items make cutting for a quilt super fast & easy. I should really use them more often. When this project is complete, it will be placed across one of the girl's beds and they're already arguing who will get it.
Looks like I have to make another one:)
The best part ~ I created something that will stick around for years to come:)
And for those of you who remember scrappy.....no I haven't forgotten. It's still a work in progress:)
