Ohh fabric designers.... just slow down a bit so I could save some money in my pocket. Seriously. I have a humongous list of fabrics I want to work with and little by little, yes, I'm plucking away at the wishlist. I feel like it's the 'phase'. You know what i'm talking about. Sometimes you go to the stores and everything you see you could picture yourself wearing and sometimes, you shop and feel like you wouldn't wear a thing in sight. Well... i'm currently going through the phase of 'oh my, I neeeeed this....' To reiterate.. have you checked out the stunning collection Coyote by Hawthorne Threads?? Yowza! It's beautiful! I want to make a quilt with that gorgeous "wolf" back panel, some curtains, & some aprons for the shop! (That's just one example of a collection i'm currently crushing on.)
The other one I'm luvin' is the collection Mesa by Alexia Abegg, of Cotton & Steel fabric. As soon as it came out, all I could envision was a quilt packed with flying geese. So that's just what I did!
For my solids, I used 3 yards of Kona cotton, but unfortunately I don't know the name of the exact color. Thanks to Joann's not so great organizing, they had 2 different shades of Kona dark navy blue on one bolt. I take it some of you will not be surprised....
Going on... all I used was one fat quarter bundle of the Mesa Collection. Two squares were cut measuring 9 & 1/4" by 9 & 1/4". Using the no waste flying geese method; my navy blue squares were cut 4 & 7/8" by 4 & 7/8". This left me with 4 by 8 inch geese. And I have enough fabric leftover to make a table runner or pillow! Yahoo!! I threw a yardstick in the photo so you can see the size of the quilt so far. I can't wait to finish this one! It screams Summer!!
And.... as if taking on another quilt isn't enough, some of you might recognize the photo below from my Instagram feed. I started another mini quilt. I know... you can never too many projects going on at once. I purchased this little charm pack from the Cleveland Quilting Expo a few weeks ago. It's Moda's Regent Street by Sentimental Studios. The florals really pop against the black. I think this may be the little number I take with me to the long arm class to practice my free stitching....
Overall, I feel this mad rush to sew as much as possible, in case you haven't noticed. The weather is warming up which means yard work is calling even though salad, spinach, and pepper seeds have already been planted. There's so much to do, so little time! And of course I had to show you what's in current bloom at our house!
