A Spring Top



 
A retro inspired top!
 
What can be better than making the uncoordinated ~ coordinated? Putting unpredictable fabrics together is something I love to do with sewing. I found myself drawn toward a multi-colored polka dot fabric that could only be enhanced by a bright, lime green & yellow lining.
There was no need to break this project up into sections.
It was a simple pattern to work with. Take a look!
 

 
Cutting the pattern and fabric is always the most tedious part. It has to be precise or your finished product won't look so finished.
 


Transfer every marking! For transferring darts, I marked the central and end points.
Connect them with a straight edge.


Line the darts downwards and stitch together towards the center point.


Connect your front to back, only at the sides.
Next the 'mini' lining ~ Stitch them together, at the sides, face fabric inwards. I finished the lower edge with a serger to keep the ends from fraying.
You can do this with a zig-zag stitch on your machine.


 
 
 Place your lining over your top, right sides facing each other.
Sew only at the armhole edges and neck.
 

Clip away at the curves so that when you turn it right side out, you press and achieve a flat, flawless seam. I connected the shoulders by straight stitching face sides together, once with the serger and then again with the sewing machine. (Unnecessary, but a habit indeed.) You could finish with a slip stitch only if you leave a seam allowance at the shoulders when sewing your neck and armholes.
This is where my pattern slightly disappointed. There really was no wiggle room.
I serged for the hem and pressed inward; completed with a straight stitch.
 
 


I used the coordinating lining fabric to make an abstract ruffle.
(I'll have to show you that in another post.)
 A black knit button made a perfect point of interest.
Making clothes and items for yourself or others is extremely rewarding. I swear, once you make a piece, the term well-made takes on a whole new meaning.

Hello friends and fellow bloggers! I hope the start of 2021 has been full of good health, happiness, and love. January.... you're almost done!

Hello friends!  I feel like it's been forever since my last post. I suppose some might even say I've been spending nearly all my time on the forefront of creative madness along with trying to continue healing. Holy smokes! Chemo and radiation will change a person forever. I'm continuing my healing journey, and staying hopeful that I'll remain in the 'clear' for a long time. It's odd, the way you feel, when everything you've gotten accustomed to: the running around, working day to day, rushing here and rushing there.... how quickly it changes when it's no longer a necessity. Yes, I am extremely thankful that my spouse supports and pushes for my healing time, omitting nurse life as it was, but like I told my girlfriend the other day, "how many craft projects can a girl possibly do?" ..... Crystal Knob Rack

So... what can you do with a piece of wood measuring 45 inches by 3 1/2? Well, if it's 1 inch thick, you can use it to make the cutest wall rack. But instead of using hooks, use drawer knobs!   Here's how the idea got started. I needed a place to photograph kids aprons. Now, most of you know that my girls have been modeling them, but they can't model toddler aprons, right? All I could picture was a gorgeous crystal knob rack used to display those mini aprons I love to make. And after searching in stores and online, I realized they are not very easy to find. Soo...... "oooohhh hubby.... can you drill a few holes in this piece of oak wood I found in the barn?"   Of course he did it in a heart beat & he even sanded it down too! The holes were positioned like this: I did the two outer ones first, then measured to the center in between those. And again, the middle of the center and outer one. Got it? I took some regular creamy white wall paint I had left...
