What I did decide to do, is check out all those pins I've been saving on Pinterest for some sewing inspiration. I found a really easy pattern - just stitching 3 strips together, cut them into blocks, and then place solid blocks in between for a checkered look. It looked cute with the pastels the girl used. But for some reason when I did it, no one... I mean absolutely nobody in this house liked the appearance. Maybe it was the strong contrast, because no whites were used at the time; just navy and the jelly roll. When I laid out the 'rough draft', my hubby was the first to say "Ehh... I mean if you like it, but it looks too plain." Which was followed by my daughters saying, "No (period)"... So this left me with another idea.... What if I took those blocks, doubled them up, right sides together, and sewed up some quick hst's (half square triangles)?
Ya know what? It came out pretty cute! Solid white was used to break up the repetition and I kinda think it makes it look like an Amish inspired quilt. (Which is pretty exciting since I love Amish quilt patterns!) The overall finished size is 56 by 56.
And I almost forgot to tell you. The fabric is Riley Blake's Woodland Spring Collection:) The only downside was that jelly roll was not the typical 42 pieces. I would've loved to have more strips to make a larger quilt!
Happy Trails till next time!
